In mid 2011, helping an airline adopt an integrated talent management framework, we interviewed dozens of HR Directors in the private, public and voluntary sectors to ascertain best practice.

We asked them what they were doing, how and why they were doing it, and what challenges they faced.

Then we wrote up our review. Inspiration for our free 2012 white paper, The War for Talent Management.

One thing that struck us was how interested HRD’s were in the views of their peers. Not that they didn’t bump into each other at conferences, but they actively wanted to know and hear what others were doing now.  What exciting projects were getting them up in the morning - and what nagging problems were keeping them awake at night.  Which best practices had succeeded beyond - and which had failed to live up to - expectations.

So, we decided to respond and set up an exclusive HRD Network which we launched in December 2011. Focusing on the ROI of Talent Management, it featured our good friend and Danish HCM expert, Morten Kamp Anderson, as guest speaker.

Subsequently we invited forty HRD members to decide which subjects mattered most to them in 2012. We then carefully selected more expert guest speakers to come along and share their insights. We also agreed to stick to the original premises of the network: subjects chosen by members, confidentially hosted by members, with no membership fees and no sponsors getting in the way of doing business.
